List of Honours - No more Arguement, See Who is Still The King of English Football Before You Start Arguing

Some people might still argue that Manchester United is England's most successful club, even after Liverpool's haul of trophies in recent time. This article is actually aimed at analysing why the both of them can still be seen as the king respectfully, depending on which Competition Honour is generally viewed as valid enough to be counted.

When Liverpool won the Champions League last season in Madrid, they actually drew level on 42 trophies apiece with their greatest rival, Manchester United, albeit the open argument that the equality of trophies between the both teams are based on those competitions considered as valid ( major or proper) to be counted as club's real honour by football governing body, FIFA.

Liverpool, who won their first League Title in 1901, did went on to win a treble of more  honours after the UEFA Champions League victory against a propelled Tottenham team. Those honours amassed,  between 2019 - 2020, are UEFA Super Cup, Club World Cup, and now Their 19th Premier League Title after 30 years of waiting.

When comparing just major honours - League Titles, FA Cups, League Cups, Champions Leagues, UEFA Cups, and Cup Winners' Cups - Liverpool comes favourite to be revered as King of English Football. Yet Liverpool are behind Manchester United when you include those competitions officially not counted as priority trophies.

Adding these recent trophies, Liverpool can boast of 43 officially recognized Trophies as against Manchester United's 42. That is 1 more than their Arc Rival. Looking at this from the above point of view and considering what the football governing body stands for, Liverpool can officially be declared as the KING OF ENGLISH FOOTBALL.

Manchester United have won 42 major trophies. These include 20 League Titles, 12 FA Cups, 5 League Cups, 3 European Cups/Champions League title, 1 Cup Winners’ Cup, and 1 UEFA Cup/Europa League.

Liverpool now have 43 major honours to their name - 19 League Titles, 8 League Cups, 7 FA Cups, 6 European Cups/Champions League, and 3 UEFA Cup/Europa League.

Both clubs can claim an advantage over the other - Liverpool with 6 European Cups and Manchester United with 20 League Titles. Manchester United Has 3 European Cups and Liverpool Has 19 League Titles. Manchester United's most successful decade/period was during Ferguson's reign, 1990s - 2000s with the club amassing a 'storex' load of Trophies. Liverpool's most successful decade was the 1980s, when the club won six League titles, two FA Cups, four League Cups, one Football League Super Cup, five Charity Shields (one shared) and two European Cups. Liverpool are the most successful 'British' club in international football with 14 Trophies. Manchester United are the most successful 'English' club in Domestic football with 58 ( excluding division 2) Trophies. Liverpool, after winning the FIFA Club World Cup for the first time, became the first English club to win the international treble of Club World Cup, Champions League and UEFA Super Cup simultaneously. These are all Kingly facts. They can both revel in that.

After winning the league (2019-2020), Liverpool have moved ahead of Manchester United in the standings for 'proper' trophies (43-42)

Now let's look at the inclusion of other Trophies like the Community Shield and UEFA Super Cup. It is a different table all together if these other competition trophies are included because Man United leads, yet another twist if division two glory is anything to go by.

Division two Title
Manchester United - 2
Liverpool FC - 4

Liverpool have won 15 Community Shield, 4 UEFA Super Cup, Football League Super Cup, 1, Sheriff of London Charity Shield, 1, and 1 FIFA Club World Cup. In the addition to their 43 'proper' Trophies, the total haul of Trophies is 65

The Red Devils have won 21 Community Shields, 1 UEFA Super Cup, 1 FIFA Club World Cup, and 1 Intercontinental Cup. In the addition to their 42 'proper' Trophies, the total haul of Trophies is 66.

That means Manchester United lead the overall trophy record 66-65. Both are Kings but Liverpool is just any trophy away from being officially declared the King of English Football.
